Dear University Citizen!
We warmly welcome you on behalf of the Physical Education and Sports Institute of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences. We hope that you are already interested in the community-building work of the Institute, driven by a specific intention, and if you have accidentally stumbled upon us, we still welcome you very warmly and trust that you will like the idea of the presented institute to protect the health of university citizens.

Our goal is to train the student who comes into contact with our institution - through joint work - to become a person with an intellectual attitude who thinks about the basic activity of everyday movement, who will become a useful and respected member of society.

The structure of the institute
The Institute of Physical Education and Sport is represented on all five campuses of the university. The head of the Physical Education and Sports Center is responsible for the physical education classes of each campus and the rental of sports facilities on a market basis.

The Institute of Physical Education and Sports consists of the sports centers of the following campuses:

  • Buda Campus Physical Education and Sports Center
  • Georgikon Campus Physical Education and Sports Center
  • Szent István Campus Physical Education and Sports Center
  • Károly Róbert Campus Physical Education and Sports Center
  • Kaposvári Campus Physical Education and Sports Center

Education
The most important element of our activity is the provision of regular sports within the timetable. At the same time, we also focus on leisure programs, and the utilization of free capacity on a market basis is also one of our tasks. We rent out our outdoor courts and sports halls mainly during exam periods, summer and weekends. In addition to all of this, we also consider the organization and implementation of employee sports to be an important task. The formation of MATE sports communities strengthens the feeling of belonging.

According to the adopted strategy, the requirements of the type "A" subject (physical education I-II) must be fulfilled in two semesters in all forms of training. In addition, MATE students can also take the subject of physical education as type "C" in the basic and master's courses, for which 1 credit is awarded. We offer students a wide range of sports, which they can change every semester according to their interests. There is only one requirement: everyone should attend the classes according to their abilities.

Our goal is for students to get to know as many leisure and recreational sports as possible, thereby finding a community and enriching themselves with experiences. Our calendar regularly includes home competitions, championships, and sports days.

I believe that we are heading in the right direction to include elite university sports in the higher education system, which has already worked well in the USA and some European countries. Currently, MATE teams are assembled by colleagues from students who play in Hungarian championships or are world champions or Olympians. Even so, we are stronger than other universities.

We have created a career path model for elite athletes, which, we can proudly say, is currently unique in higher education. MATE Olympian and world champion athletes who also perform well in their studies receive a scholarship. This amount per month already has sufficient motivation for those who are capable of outstanding performance.

Services
The responsibilities of the Institute of Physical Education and Sport include the operation of the sports facilities on the campuses and the utilization of free capacity after physical education classes on a market basis.
